LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's soccer team fell by a 2-1 score in overtime against Lynchburg in ODAC play on Friday night.
The Hornets (8-1, 3-0 ODAC) netted the game-winning goal in the 96th minute on a shot just outside the box from senior defender Alix Allen. Senior midfielder Amanda Wigboldy found Allen in the middle of the field at the top of the box after dribbling up the sideline, as Allen fired with her right foot into the bottom-right corner of the frame.
The Generals (6-2-1, 1-1-1 ODAC) scored the game's opening tally in the 32nd minute when sophomore midfielder
Emma Mansfield (Washington, D.C./The Potomac School) sent a cross in from the left side that was booted into the back of the net by junior midfielder
Grace Wielechowski (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic). W&L and Lynchburg finished the first half tied in shots, 8-8, with one shot on goal per side.
Lynchburg tallied the equalizer in the 78th minute on a free kick goal from senior midfielder Taylor Smith, who placed her attempt in the top-right corner of the frame.

Ann Riley Huber (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents' Episcopal) led the W&L offense with two shots each, as Wielechowski's goal was her team-leading fourth of the season. Mansfield's assist on Wielechowski's goal was her first assist of the season. Senior goalkeeper
Grace Coombs (Boca Raton, Fla./Saint Andrews School) (6-2-1) played all 95:39 in goal and made three saves on the night.
Allen and Smith took two shots each for the Lynchburg offense, combining for three attempts on goal, while Wigboldy led the team with four total shots. Sophomore keeper Jade Lecklider (5-0) made one save over the duration of the game.
After the teams split 16 shots in the first half, Lynchburg edged W&L, 6-4, for the remainder of the game to finish with a 14-12 shot advantage. W&L earned five corner kicks and conceded none.
The Generals will return to play on Wednesday when they face-off against Sweet Briar on the road at 4:30 pm.
