No. 8 Generals' Second-Half Rally Falls Short in 9-8 Loss at No. 7 F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. — The eighth-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team overcame a four-goal second half deficit, but then seventh-ranked Franklin & Marshall registered two goals in the final 10 minutes to secure a 9-8 victory over the Generals on Saturday at Shadek Stadium.

The Diplomats (1-0) led at halftime, 6-3, and scored the first goal of the second just 19 seconds into the stanza to assume a 7-3 advantage. Over the next 10 minutes, the Blue and White (1-1) went on a 4-0 run, including three goals from first-year attacker Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Harriton) to tie the game.

Schwab notched the first with 29:08 on the clock, after cutting through the F&M defense. She then pulled W&L to within two (7-5) at the 27:50 mark off a free-position shot. Her third tally came five minutes later off another free-position attempt.

The Generals tied the contest, 7-7, when senior attacker Dani Murray (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver) sent a pass from behind the goal to first-year midfielder Jenny Lisovicz (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge). Lisovicz quickly flicked the shot back into the cage just beating the shot clock with 19:58 remaining in the game.

Neither team scored for the next 10 minutes, until sophomore midfielder Tabitha Rodriquez registered a goal off an assist from junior attacker Jane Cote with 10:08 left on the clock to put the Diplomats back in front. The Blue and White again evened the score when senior attacker Collette Murray (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) found a diving Dani Murray in front of the cage for a goal.

Franklin & Marshall won the ensuing draw control and went down and scored what proved to be the game winning tally off a shot from sophomore midfielder Marissa McGarrey. Over the final three minutes, the Generals took just one shot that went high, and then turned the ball over in the final seconds, as F&M held on for the one-goal win.

Dani Murray led the team with three goals and two assists for five points, while Schwab had three goals. First-year midfielder Christina Cavallo (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes' School) and Lisovicz each had one goal, while Collette Murray tallied one assist.

Senior defender Caitlin Anderson (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) totaled five ground balls, four caused turnovers and two draw controls. Lisovicz had three caused turnovers, while sophomore defender Caroline Hall (Henrico, Va./Collegiate School) chipped in three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Senior Elliot Gilbert (Bedford, N.Y./Deerfield Academy) played the full 60 minutes in goal, making eight saves. She also had three ground balls and one caused turnover. Her counterpart, sophomore Emily Kitchin, stopped seven shots.

F&M led in draw controls, 12-7, but W&L grabbed 20 ground balls compared to 17 for the Diplomats.

Junior attacker Megan Jackson and McGarrey each totaled two goals and one assist to lead Franklin & Marshall, while sophomore attacker Ally Marino registered five draw controls.

The Generals return to action on Wednesday, when they play a neutral-site contest against Rhodes at Harpeth Hall School in Nashville, Tenn., at 6 pm Central Standard Time.
