LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior midfielder Brant Pittman and senior attackman Peter Pittroff combined for 10 goals and three assists to lead eighth-ranked Denison to a 17-11 win over 13th-ranked Washington and Lee in men's lacrosse action on Sunday at Wilson Field.
The Big Red (1-0) opened a 3-0 lead in the initial nine minutes of the contest on the strength of two unassisted goals from Pittman. The Generals (0-2) battled back with consecutive tallies from first-year attackman

Taylor Witherell (Wilmington, Del. / Salesianum) to climb within a goal (3-2) with 4:24 left in the first period. However, the Big Red totaled two more goals, including a third score from Pittman, to take a 5-2 lead into the second quarter.
W&L opened the second quarter scoring with an unassisted goal from senior midfielder
Hudson Hamill (Darien, Conn. / Darien) just 2:40 into the frame, but Denison used a three-goal run featuring a goal and an assist from Pittroff, to take an 8-3 lead with 5:32 left in the half.
The Blue & White finished the first half by scoring two of the final three goals, including a man-up goal by senior attackman
Mike Weaver (Lititz, Pa. / Cedar Crest) off a Hamill assist, to make it a 9-5 game at the intermission.
W&L opened the second half with another man-up goal, this time an unassisted score from junior midfielder
Ben Mulholland (Sewickley, Pa. / Sewickley Academy), to cut it to 9-6 with 13:20 left in the penultimate quarter. Pittroff and Pittman both followed with goals for Denison to make it 11-6, but a three-goal run in a span of 1:28 brought the Generals back to within two goals (11-9) with 7:18 left in the third period. Mulholland got the spurt started and his goal was followed by one each from senior midfielders
Jed Londrey (Richmond, Va. / Collegiate) and
Nicholas Rodman (Atlanta, Ga. / North Atlanta).
The Big Red stopped the Generals' rally and tacked on two more scores before the end of the period. They then pulled away late for the six-goal final margin.
W&L held a 53-46 advantage in shots, a 33-29 edge in ground balls and the Generals claimed 20-of-32 faceoffs.
Mulholland led the Generals with two goals and two assists, while Hamill posted two goals and one helper. Senior midfielder
Jack Hodgson (Richmond, Va. / St. Christopher's) continued his dominance at the faceoff X, winning 15-of-25 draws. Senior
Matt Lanigan (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Oratory Prep) received the start in goal, making four saves with nine goals allowed. Junior
Jack Taylor (Baltimore, Md. / Saint Paul's) played the final 30 minutes, making six saves with eight goals allowed.
Pittman scored six goals, while Pittroff added four goals and three assists. Sophomore attackman Doug Godine chipped in two goals and two assists. Junior Reeves McKenney played all 60 minutes in goal and registered 16 saves.
Washington and Lee will return to action next Saturday when it hosts Washington College for a 1:00 pm contest.
