FERRUM, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's basketball team cruised to a 73-55 win over Ferrum on Thursday evening in its first action since the turn of the new year.
W&L improves to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the ODAC with the win, while the Panthers fall to 0-11 overall and 0-4 in league play.
The Generals got going right out of the gate, closing the first quarter on a 12-2 run, and led 23-10 after the opening period. Senior guard
Taylor Casey (Brentwood, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) led the way with 11 of W&L's 23 points, as she made 4-of-7 shots, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
After extending their lead to 18 by the end of the first half, the Generals' lead ballooned to as large as 23 points in the third quarter, while Ferrum came as close as 14 points down in the fourth quarter. Both teams scored 29 points each in the second half.
Casey finished the game with 13 points, while sophomore guard
Jordan Diehl (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) also scored 13 points and added five rebounds and three assists. Sophomore guard
Erin Addison (Waxhaw, N.C./Weddington) and junior guard
Lynn Johnson (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft School) provided a spark off the W&L bench, scoring 11 and nine points, respectively, and each went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.

Erin Hughes (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft School) contributed nine points, nine rebounds, three assists and a steal as well.
Ferrum first-year guard Kayla Cabiness scored a game-high 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and dished out a pair of assists. First-year guard Aisha Martin tallied 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting overall, making both three-point shots, and pulled down two rebounds and recorded two assists.
The Generals shots 39.4 percent (26-66) overall in the game, while the Panthers sank 45.8 percent (22-48) of their shots. W&L made 10 three pointers (29 attempts) for the fourth time this season and connected on a season-best 91.7 percent (11-12) from the charity stripe. The Generals won the turnover battle by three and held advantages over Ferrum in bench points (26-4) and second-chance points (13-2).
W&L will be back in action on Saturday when the Generals take on Guilford in a 2:00 pm ODAC showdown.
