WINCHESTER, Va. — Senior defender Megan Stevens scored with 42 seconds left in the game to lead Shenandoah to a 2-1 victory over the Washington and Lee field hockey team on Wednesday at Shentel Stadium.
The teams were tied, 1-1, with the clock ticking down in the fourth, and then the Hornets (13-3, 6-1 ODAC) earned a penalty corner with 54 seconds left in the game. The ball was inserted to the top of the circle, and sophomore midfielder Kelsey Jones sent the ball toward the goal. Stevens deflected it into the cage for the game-winner.
The Generals (8-7, 5-2 ODAC) scored the first goal of the game just 4:59 into the first period. Off a penalty corner, the ball was on the right side of the circle and struck toward the cage. First-year forward
Freddie Tobeason (New York, N.Y./Groton School) deflected the ball to the left post, and senior defender
Olivia Hewitt (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) slammed the ball into the cage to give the Generals a 1-0 advantage.
The Hornets tied the game with 4:49 left in the second quarter, when sophomore forward Lauren Tyre scored off an assist from Jones.
Shenandoah held a slight edge in shots, 8-6, but had a commanding 8-2 advantage in penalty corners, which proved to be the difference in the contest.

Sara Amil (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) played the full 60 minutes, stopping three shots. Junior goalkeeper Isabella Morande completed the game with five saves.
The Generals return to action on Saturday, when they host Bridgewater at 1:00 pm for their Senior Day.
