NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team held York (Pa.) to a -.080 hitting percentage on Saturday in a 3-0 victory at Christopher Newport in a neutral-site contest on Saturday.
The Generals (22-5) notched a .341 hitting percentage with 39 kills on 85 attempts with 10 errors. The Spartans (14-15) totaled just 16 kills on 88 swings with 23 errors.
The -.080 hitting percentage is the second-worst hitting percentage by a Blue and White opponent this year. Ferrum hit -.084 on September 28.
W&L controlled all three of the sets, winning 25-14, 25-7 and 25-16. The teams were tied, 12-12, in the first set, but the Generals won 13 of the final 15 points to take the set.
The run continued in the second with the Blue and White winning the first 14 points en route to claiming the stanza. In the third, W&L opened with a 9-3 run and then held on to close out the match.
Junior outside hitter
Leah Green (Longwood, Fla./Lake Highland Preparatory School) led all players with 12 kills on a .318 hitting percentage. She also had six digs. Junior outside hitter
Brynne Gould (Boone, N.C./Watauga) notched eight kills on 20 attempts (.400 hitting percentage) with six digs.
Sophomore middle blocker
Katy Blain (West Palm Beach, Fla./Benjamin School) had five kills on six swings. First-year defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) had a match-high 11 digs, while first-year setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) recorded 27 assists, five kills and five digs.
First-year outside hitter Lydia Stump led York with 10 digs and four kills, while first-year middle hitter Sydney Wilber also had four kills.
The Generals play at CNU later on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
