HARRISONBURG, Va. — Junior outside hitters
Brynne Gould (Boone, N.C./Watauga) and
Leah Green (Longwood, Fla./Lake Highland Preparatory School) combined for 32 kills to lead the Washington and Lee volleyball team to a 3-0 victory at Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday at Yoder Arena.
The Generals (21-5, 8-3 ODAC) were never really threatened in the contest, winning the three sets 25-18, 25-14 and 25-19. The victory marked the eighth straight for W&L dating back to October 5.
The Blue and White hit .306 as a team with 46 kills and only 12 errors on 111 total attempts. The Royals (11-12, 4-8 ODAC) recorded a .174 hitting percentage with 32 kills on 109 swings with 13 errors.
Gould totaled a match-high 19 kills on a .457 hitting percentage. She also had 11 digs. Green registered 13 kills on 29 attempts (.310 hitting percentage). Junior outside hitter
Kiera Borthwick (Northville, Mich./Northville) notched five kills, six digs and three blocks.
First-year defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) tallied 22 digs, pushing her season total to 432. The 432 digs are the 10th-most in a single-season in W&L history. First-year setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) had 32 assists and four digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Johnson led EMU with nine kills and seven digs. First-year defensive specialist Delanie Miller totaled 14 digs, and junior setter Tori Wigley had 25 assists.
The Generals return to action on Saturday for a tri-match at Christopher Newport. W&L takes on York (Pa.) in a neutral-site contest at 11 am, and then faces the Captains at 1:00 pm.
