Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. — Lynchburg scored the first four goals of the game on its way to a 4-1 win over the Washington and Lee field hockey team on Saturday in the final regular season contest for both teams.
The Hornets (13-5, 8-0 ODAC) notched the first tally of the game in the 28th minute off the stick of sophomore forward Jackie Lerro. Lynchburg took the 1-0 advantage into halftime, but extended the lead to 2-0 on senior forward Nikki Simpao's 21st goal of the season with 27:07 left in the second half.
Just 58 seconds later, the Hornets pushed the lead to 3-0 on a goal by senior forward Isabella Eldridge, and senior forward Kayla Copeman registered the team's fourth goal with 12 minutes left in the game.
Sophomore forward Grace Amaden (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) put the Generals (7-9, 5-3 ODAC) on the board with 4:21 remaining in the contest off an assist from first-year forward Stella Noels (Cambridge, Mass./Middlesex School). It marked the first goal of the year for Amaden.
Senior goalkeeper Ariyel Yavalar (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest School) played the full 70 minutes and stopped 12 saves. Sophomore keeper Laurel Nicks made two saves in 70 minutes for Lynchburg.
The Hornets held a 21-9 advantage in shots and a 10-8 edge in penalty corners.
The Generals will enter the ODAC Tournament as the three seed. W&L will host sixth-seeded Bridgewater on Tuesday with the time to be announced.
