LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore forward Kelsey Anderson (Alexandria, Va. / Episcopal) scored the game-winning goal in the 32nd minute to give the Washington and Lee women's soccer team a 2-0 victory over Emory & Henry in ODAC action on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.
Anderson scored at the 32:35 mark when she received a cross into the center of the box from first-year forward Megan Duncanson (Hillsborough, Calif. / Crystal Springs Uplands) and slipped it into the lower corner of the net just past the hands of E&H (4-11-1, 3-5-1) senior keeper Kayla Wright. W&L (10-4-1, 7-2) took a 1-0 lead into intermission.
The Generals pushed their lead to 2-0 in the opening minutes of the second half when sophomore midfielder Caroline Coppinger (Billerica, Mass. / Deerfield Academy) played the ball over the E&H defense to junior midfielder Megan Engeland (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury), who fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the net at the 47:29 mark.
For the game, W&L held a commanding 31-1 advantage in shots and a 13-1 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore keeper Leeann Passaro (Upper Saddle River, N.J. / The Lawrenceville School) played the full 90 minutes in goal and made one save for the Generals. Wright also played the entire contest in goal for the Wasps and made 12 stops.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Virginia Wesleyan for a 5:00 pm contest.
