Box Score MOUNT BERRY, Ga. — In its second match at the Berry Invitational, the Washington and Lee volleyball team lost 3-0 to the host Vikings on Friday evening.
The Generals (1-1) led 20-17 in the first set, but Berry (2-0) scored eight of the final 11 points to take the opener, 25-23. The Vikings claimed the second, 25-20, and in the third, Berry hit .364 as a team and secured the set, 25-21, to win the match.
Sophomore outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) led the Generals with nine kills and a team-high 14 digs. First-year outside hitter Allison Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) totaled eight kills, while senior middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) had seven. Junior setter Elena West (Roanoke, Va./Northside) dished out 29 assists and chipped in 13 digs.
Senior middle blocker Jessica Gum and sophomore outside hitter Christina Goforth each tallied nine kills to pace the Vikings. Sophomore outside hitter Teagan Holderfield contributed eight kills and eight digs. Senior libero Katie Truluck notched a match-high 19 digs, and junior setter Hannah Kate Thompson added a match-high 32 assists.
W&L hit .142 over three sets with 42 kills on 134 attempts with 23 errors. Berry hit .244, recording 39 kills on 119 attempts with only 10 errors.
The Generals play their final two matches at the Berry Invitational on Saturday. W&L takes on Covenant at 10:30 am and then Millsaps at 1:00 pm.
