LEXINGTON, Va. — Sophomore forward Haley Tucker (Manakin-Sabot, Va./St. Catherine's School) scored two goals to propel the Washington and Lee field hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Kenyon on Sunday at the W&L Turf Field.

The Generals (2-2) peppered the Ladies' (2-2) goalkeeper, junior Sarah Speroff, in the first half, but she stopped the first 11 shots W&L sent her way. The Blue and White finally broke through in the 27th minute on a penalty corner. Senior defender Noelani Schulmeyer (Glen Arm, Md./St. Paul's School) inserted the ball to the top of the circle, and Tucker fired a shot that flew past Speroff to give the Generals a 1-0 advantage.

The score remained 1-0 through the start of the second half, but sophomore forward Annalise Thole (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) pushed the W&L lead to 2-0 with 22:44 left in the game. Off another penalty corner, the ball was swung from the top of the circle to the far side. Sophomore forward Allie DiPietro (Owings Mills, Md./Garrison Forest School) crossed a pass in front of the cage, and Thole deflected it in the goal for her first collegiate tally.

Kenyon cut the lead to 2-1 with 6:39 left in the game, when junior midfielder Katelyn Hutchinson scored off a pass from sophomore forward Lynne Cullen. Tucker notched her second goal of the contest and her third of the season 3:18 later. DiPietro took a shot from the near side, which Speroff saved, but Tucker stuffed in the rebound to reach the final margin.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ariyel Yavalar (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest School) played the entire 70 minutes for W&L and made five saves, which all came in the second half. Speroff stopped 16 shots, but suffered the loss with three goals allowed.

The Blue and White dominated in shots, 25-13, and held a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners.

The Generals return to action on Saturday, when they host Sewanee at 1:00 pm.
