Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. — Junior middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) recorded 17 kills and three blocks to lead the Washington and Lee volleyball team past Bridgewater, 3-0, on Friday at the Warner Center.
The Generals (12-10, 7-1 ODAC) claimed the first set, 25-13. Leading 7-4 in the second, W&L scored 12 straight points, including three kills by Shand and three by first-year outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy), to push the lead to 19-4.
The Eagles (7-13, 3-5 ODAC) responded by winning 13 of the next 16 points to close the gap to 22-17. Following a kill by senior outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic), the Blue and White regained momentum and won the set, 25-18. In the third, W&L claimed the final six points to take the set, 25-16.
Shand registered her 17 kills on 27 attempts with only three errors for a .519 hitting percentage. Lausberg added 10 kills and five digs.
Sophomore setter Elena West (Roanoke, Va./Northside) did a little bit of everything with 36 assists, five kills and six digs. Guignon totaled nine kills and four digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Katie Volk (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) posted a team-high 10 digs.
Bridgewater tallied just 19 kills as a team with sophomore middle hitter Carleigh Studtmann (Salem, Va./Salem) leading the way with four. Sophomore defensive specialist Macon Frey (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) had a match-high 13 digs.
The Generals return to action on Saturday, when they host Eastern Mennonite at 12:00 pm and William Peace at 4:30 pm.
