Box Score ASHLAND, Va. — With four second half goals, third seeded Randolph-Macon knocked the sixth seeded Washington and Lee field hockey team out of the ODAC Tournament, 5-2, on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets (10-9) scored the first five goals of the game before the Generals (5-15) added two late tallies to reach the final margin. R-MC junior defender Carrie Jacobs tallied two goals and an assist and junior midfielder Catherine Pricone added two goals.
Randolph-Macon pulled away early in the second half. In a five-minute span, the Yellow Jackets stretched a 1-0 advantage to 5-0, with 25 minutes left in the game.
Sophomore forward Candice Stefanic (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) cut the deficit to 5-1 at 53:59, and sophomore forward Charlotte MacDonald (Bluemont, Va./Foxcroft) tallied the final goal of the game with 5:40 remaining.
Senior goalkeeper Steph Talley played all 70 minutes for R-MC and made 11 saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Axelrod (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver School) totaled three saves in 53:38 and allowed five goals. Sophomore Sally Curtiss (Morristown, N.J./Madison) played the final 16:22 and did not face a shot.
The Blue and White led in shots, 16-14, including 10 shots in the second half. The Yellow Jackets led in penalty corners, 7-6.
The loss ended the 2013 season for the Generals.
