W&L Volleyball Loses at Bridgewater, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team suffered its first loss in ODAC play on Saturday in a 3-0 defeat at Bridgewater.

The Eagles' (15-14, 4-6 ODAC) defense held the Generals (19-6, 8-1 ODAC) to a .050 hitting percentage, which marked their season low, in the 25-12, 25-22, 25-13 win over the Blue and White.

Junior middle hitter Megann Grimes led Bridgewater with 11 kills on 19 attempts for a .526 hitting percentage. First-year middle hitter Megan Lookabaugh added nine kills.

W&L totaled 30 kills and 24 errors on 121 total attempts. First-year middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) hit. .421 with 10 kills to lead the team. Senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) tallied nine kills and recorded a team-best 16 digs.

Junior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) recorded 13 digs. Senior Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) and sophomore Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) split the setting duties for the Blue and White. Meleski had 12 assists and Kinzer registered 10.

It marked the first loss to the Eagles since 2007. The Generals play Salem later on Saturday at Bridgewater.
