Box Score FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior midfielder Emmy Mathews (Baltimore,
Md./Bryn Mawr) scored a pair of goals and the Washington and Lee
field hockey team notched three second-half goals in securing a 4-3
victory over Frostburg State on Tuesday evening at Bobcat
Field.
The Generals notched three goals in the final 35 minutes,
including the tying and game-winning tallies just 3:33 apart, as
they overcame a 3-1 halftime deficit to even their record at 1-1.
Frostburg State fell to 2-4 with the loss.
Becky Randal gave Frostburg a 1-0 lead at the 12:54 of the first
half mark as she took a pass from Breanne Russell and beat W&L
sophomore goalkeeper Kirsten
Kyne (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven).
W&L quickly responded when Mathews netted her first goal of
the game less than four minutes later to knot the score at 1-1.
Senior forward Kelly
Tran (Simsbury, Conn./Ethel Walker) was credited with the
assist.
The Bobcats' Lindsey Frost then tallied a pair of goals less than
three minutes apart, one off a feed from Chelsea Smith, to give
Frostburg a 3-1 lead heading into the break.
In the second half, the Generals quickly cut into Bobcats' lead as

Chelsea Stevenson
(Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) scored unassisted
The score remained that way until junior defender
Lizz Dye (Houston,
Texas/Episcopal) tied the game at 3-3 when she took a pass from
senior defender Jennie
Norcini (Wayne, Pa./Episcopal) and put a shot past Frostburg
State's Maggie Edwards.
Mathews then followed less than four minutes later with the
game-winning goal at the 52:40 mark. Stevenson picked up an assist
on the tally.
W&L held a 28-8 advantage in shots, including a 22-4 lead in
shots on goal. The Generals also earned 11 penalty corners to just
seven for the Bobcats.
Kyne and classmate
Caroline Sutherland
(Huntington, N.Y./Cold Harbor) split time in goal. Sutherland
picked up the win as she played the final 35 minutes. She did not
allow a goal and recorded one save.
Edwards played all 70:00 in the cage for the Bobcats, allowing
four goals and stopping 18 shots.
W&L returns to action on Saturday as it travels to McDaniel
for a 1:00 pm contest.
