LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sixth-seeded Washington and Lee upset top-seeded Lynchburg, 4-1, in the opening round of the 2009 ODAC Baseball Tournament on Thursday afternoon at Lynchburg City Stadium.

Chuck Davidson (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) threw seven innings of one-run ball and first-year leftfielder
C.J. Thompson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) hit a two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning to lift the Generals (19-12) to their second win over the Hornets (25-13) this season.
Lynchburg got on the board first, scoring an unearned run on a passed ball in the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Hornets maintained that slim lead until Thompson's single in the seventh that scored senior second baseman
Byron Peyster (Washington, D.C./Maret) and sophomore rightfielder
Anthony Cardona (Lower Gwynedd, Pa./Chestnut Hill). W&L added a pair of runs in the ninth inning on a wild pitch and an RBI double off the bat of senior centerfielder
Terrence McKelvey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip).
Davidson improved to 5-2 with the win, allowing one unearned run on three hits. He recorded four strikeouts and walked just one batter in his seven innings. Senior righthander
Brendan Clark (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) picked up his third save of the year as he allowed just one hit with two strikeouts over two innings.
McKelvey finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk. Junior catcher
Will Lewis (Columbia, S.C./A.C. Flora) added two hits in four at-bats and Cardona was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
Bryan Breedlove (3-3) took the loss for the Hornets, allowing two runs (no earned) on five hits and three walks in 6.2 innings. Breedlove struck out two.
Kyle Bradley led the Hornets at the plate, recording one hit in three at-bats and scoring LC's only run. Ryan Litz was 1-for-3 and David Gaines Jr., added a double in four at-bats for Lynchburg.
The Generals now await the loser of a game between No. 3 Randolph-Macon vs. No. 4 Bridgewater for a 3:00 pm contest on Friday.
