HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - The fifth-ranked Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team scored 10 second quarter goals en route to an 18-10 victory over Hampden-Sydney on Saturday afternoon at Everett Stadium.
The Generals (12-2, 4-1) trailed 4-3 at the end of the first quarter, but opened the second period with four-straight goals, including two each from senior midfielder
Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) and sophomore attackman
Spence Daw (Phoenix, Md./Loyola-Blakefield), for a 7-4 lead at the 10:49 mark. After a man-up goal by H-SC's Carter Mavromatis at the 8:46 mark made it a 7-5 game, the Generals sandwiched a pair of three-goal runs around a single Tiger tally for a 13-6 advantage at the break in posting the eight-goal final margin.
Junior attackman
Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) paced the Generals' offense with four goals and three assists, while St. John notched four goals. Sophomore midfielder
Drew Koeneman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) recorded two goals and two assists and Daw, senior attackman
Seth Fishman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford) and junior midfielder
Kevin Feeney (Summit, N.J./Summit) all scored two goals apiece. Feeney, senior midfielder
Seldon Clarke (Short Hills, N.J./Delbarton) and first-year
Rob Look (Dallas, Texas/Hillcrest) controlled the game at the faceoff X, winning a combined 26-of-32 draws. Senior
Connor Locke (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) played 55:01 in goal and made five saves. Sophomore
Ned Lundvall (Richmond, Va./Gilman) played the other 4:59 and did not face a shot on goal.
Andrew Mahoney had a team-high three assists for Hampden-Sydney (6-8, 3-3). Mavromatis and Doug Carpenter tallied two goals and one assist each and Mark Bagby played 57:41 in goal and made 17 saves (17 GA). Ben Hansell played the final 2:19 and allowed one score.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday as it finishes the regular season with a 7:00 pm home game against Lynchburg College.
