PEORIA, Ariz. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team fell, 6-5, to Whitworth and defeated Brandeis, 6-2, to wrap up play at the Peoria Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.
In game one, W&L (4-1) was led by junior first baseman 
Hunter Serenbetz (Stamford, Conn./Taft School), who was 2-for-5 at the plate with a pair of doubles and one RBI. Senior designated hitter 
Andrew Henderson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) was 2-for-4 with a solo homerun.
Junior pitcher 
Chuck Davidson (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) made his second start of the season and allowed three runs on eight hits, with two walks and two strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. First-year 
Jody Davis (McLean, Va./Langley) came on in relief and was saddled with the loss after giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
The Generals defeated Brandeis, 6-2, in its final game in Arizona. Junior 
Jim Plantholt (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) earned the win in relief of sophomore starter 
Gregg Laswell (Houston, Texas/Memorial). Plantholt went three innings without surrendering a run and allowed just two hits. He walked none and struck out one. Laswell lasted five innings and allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
The Generals broke a 2-2 tie with a four-run seventh inning, capped by first-year 
C.J. Thompson's (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) two-run double.
Senior centerfielder Terrence McKelvely (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) was 2-for-5 with a double, a triple, a run scored and a stolen base. Junior shortstop 
John Ditore (Seattle, Wash./Bishop Blanchet) was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and a stolen base.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Stevenson at 3:00 in its home-opener.
