LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team jumped out to a 21-6 lead in the opening 10:03 of the game and cruised to a 70-44 ODAC victory over Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday evening at the Warner Center.
The Generals are now 13-10 overall and 12-6 in the league. W&L's 12 ODAC wins set a program record for conference victories in a season, besting the previous mark of 11 set during the 1998-99 and 2006-07 campaigns.
W&L led 36-17 at the intermission and held EMU (13-11, 8-11) to just 28.0 percent shooting (7-25) from the floor in the first stanza. The Generals then extended their lead to as many as 30 points (63-33) in the second half en route to the 26-point triumph.
The Blue and White were led by sophomore center
Felice Herman (Fairfield, Pa./Delone Catholic), who recorded her second double-double this year with 16 points and 10 rebounds. First-year guard Meghan Ingram (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) tallied 15 points, while senior guard
Bethany Ridenhour (Westwood, N.J./Holy Angels) chipped in nine points, three assists and two steals. First-year forward Rebecca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central) added six points and nine rebounds.
Sophomore center Danielle Scott (Summit, N.J./Summit) scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Royals, who shot just 31.0 percent (18-58) for the game and committed 20 turnovers. Junior forward Miranda Wolfe (Verona, Va./Fort Defiance) registered eight points and nine rebounds, while junior guard Melissa Lewis (Stuarts Draft, Va./Stuarts Draft) totaled eight points, eight boards, four steals and three assists.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Friday when it travels to Roanoke College for a 7:00 pm contest.
