SALEM, Va. - The Washington and Lee women's basketball team never trailed en route to snapping Roanoke's 13-game winning streak with a 65-54 victory over the Maroons in ODAC action on Friday evening at the Bast Center.
The first half featured a pair of ties, including a 26-26 deadlock with 3:43 left before the break. From there, the Generals (14-10, 13-6) closed the first stanza on a 12-2 run for a 38-28 lead at the break.
W&L shot 62.5 percent (15-24) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes and pushed their lead to as many as 15 points (60-45) with 9:49 left in the game. The Maroons (21-3, 16-3) clawed to within eight points (62-54) with 3:04 left to play, but could get no closer as the Generals won for the ninth time in their last 11 games.
Washington and Lee shot 49.1 percent (26-53) for the game and out-rebounded the Maroons, 46-31.
Four Generals scored in double-figures led by first-year guard Meghan Ingram (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale), who notched a game-high 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Senior forward Kara Nadeau (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) notched 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor, while senior guard Bethany Ridenhour (Westwood, N.J./Holy Angels) tallied 13 points. Sophomore center Felice Herman (Fairfield, Pa./Delone Catholic) added 11 points and 12 rebounds, while first-year forward Rebecca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central) chipped in four points and 10 boards.
Roanoke, which shot just 31.3 percent (20-64) from the field, was paced by Caitlyn Long's 20 points. Virginia Ann Hagood also contributed 10 points for the Maroons.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Bridgewater for a 4:30 pm contest.
