Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

W&L Falls to R-MC Women, 79-70

ASHLAND, Va. - Washington and Lee had all five starters record double figures for the first time in four seasons, but it was not enough as the Generals fell to Randolph-Macon, 79-70, in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday evening at Crenshaw Gymnasium.

The Blue & White (12-10, 11-6) shot 47.9 percent (23-48) from the floor, but could not overcome 26 turnovers and just 2-for-9 (.222) shooting from beyond the arc.

The first half was tightly contested as the Yellow Jackets (18-5, 15-3) carried a 38-33 advantage into the halftime break.

R-MC held a slight lead for much of the opening 10 minutes second half, but the Generals knotted the game at 56-56 on a layup by senior forward Kara Nadeau (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) with 9:46 to play.

However, the Yellow Jackets went on a 14-6 run over the next 5:41 to assume a 70-62 lead at the 4:05 mark. W&L could get no closer than six points (70-64) the rest of the way as R-MC claimed the nine-point win.

The Generals were paced by first-year forward Rebecca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central), who tallied 22 points and eight rebounds. First-year guard Meghan Ingram (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) posted 16 points, while senior guard Bethany Ridenhour (Westwood, N.J./Holy Angels) notched 12 markers. Nadeau and sophomore center Felice Herman (Fairfield, Pa./Delone Catholic) chipped in 10 points and six rebounds apiece.

Molly Ariail led Randolph-Macon with 22 points and seven boards. Amanda Hiltunen chipped in 15 points and seven assists, while Maggie Roy and Katie Williams added 11 points each.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00 pm contest.
