Goodman's Strong Second Half Sends Generals Past Connecticut College, 60-52

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior guard Isaiah Goodman (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) scored 15 of his career-high 18 points in the second half to lead the Washington and Lee men's basketball team to a 60-52 win in the championship game of the W&L Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.

Trailing 28-17 at the break, W&L (7-3) went on a 16-4 run to open the second half and took its first lead of the game, 33-32, on a layup by Goodman at the 12:37 mark. As the lead went back and forth the remainder of the game, the Generals found themselves down by four, 51-47, with 5:26 to go before outscoring the Camels (6-4) 13-1 down the stretch to seal the come-from-behind victory.

Clinging to a 55-52 advantage with less than 20 seconds to go, senior guard Chris McHugh's (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) three-pointer from the top of the key with 11 seconds remaining pushed the lead to six and sealed the W&L victory.

Washington and Lee shot just 30.0 percent in the first half in falling behind by as many as 13 points, before connecting on 58.3 percent (14-of-24) of their field-goal attempts in the second half. The Generals also forced the Camels into 20 turnovers on the afternoon, while committing just 13 themselves.

Goodman, who also added four steals and three rebounds, was named Tournament MVP after averaging 17 points per game over the weekend. Junior forward Zac White (Baltimore, Md./The Park School) added 10 points and six rebounds on the day and joined Goodman on the all-tournament team. Also making the all-tournament team was Connecticut College's Demetrius Porter (Virginia Beach, Va./Salisbury), Skidmore's Melvis Langyintuo (Tamale, Ghana/Lawrenceville School) and Kalamazoo's Alex Lapka (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing).

Connecticut College was led by Porter (Virginia Beach, Va./Salisbury), who paced the Camels with 14 points and a game-high 10 boards, while senior guard Billy Karis (Potsdam, N.Y./Worcester Academy) chipped in 13 points and junior guard Shavar Bernier (Dover, N.H./Bridgton Academy) added nine points.
