W&L Drops Heartbreaker at Bridgewater, 70-69

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Sophomore guard Bianca Booker hit a fade-away jumper with 3.1 seconds remaining to lift Bridgewater to a 70-69 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Nininger Hall.

The Generals led 69-68 and went to the foul line for a 1-and-1 with 17 seconds remaining. W&L missed the front end and Bridgewater sophomore guard Jordan Burkholder rebounded the miss and then pulled up for a jumper with seven seconds remaining. Booker rebounded the Burkholder miss and tallied the game-winner.

The Eagles (8-6, 6-3) took an early 10-4 lead at 15:33 of the first half, but the Generals (5-8, 5-4) slowly began chipping away at their advantage and used a 12-1 run to post a 40-29 lead at the break.

W&L led 49-39 at 14:35 of the second period, but the Eagles used a 13-7 run over the next 4:04 to make it a four-point game (56-52) at 10:31. BC continued chipping away at the Generals' advantage and eventually took the lead at 5:32 (61-60), their first lead since the opening stanza.

BC outrebounded the Generals, 46-36, and hampered W&L to just 40.9 percent shooting from the floor (27-66).

Bridgewater was paced by senior forward Jennifer Saunders' 17 points and seven rebounds. Burkholder tallied 15 points and four assists, while sophomore guard Emileigh Lambert chipped in 12 points and grabbed nine boards.

First-year forward Rebecca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central) led four Generals in double-figures with her fourth double-double of the season, 18 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Bethany Ridenhour (Westwood, N.J./Holy Angels) totaled 12 points, while first-year guard Kari Ann Pfannenstein (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) registered 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting from behind the arc. Sophomore center Felice Herman (Fairfield, Pa./Delone Catholic) chipped in 10 markers.

The Generals return to action on Tuesday as they host Hollins for a 7:00 pm game.
