W&L Volleyball Edges Bridgewater, 3-2

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated ODAC-foe Bridgewater, 3-2, on Saturday to improve to 10-3 on the season and 4-0 in the ODAC. Bridgewater, the only ODAC team to defeat W&L since the start of the 2001 season, falls to 12-4, 3-2.

The Generals prevailed 21-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 15-9, in what was just their second five-set match of the season.

W&L was led offensively by sophomore middle blocker Louise Brooks' (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) 11 kills, with senior right side Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and senior outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) adding 10 apiece. Sophomore outside hitter Marah Schmitz (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) and junior right side Kelly Harrison (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School) each contributed nine kills, while Harrison led the Generals 21 digs. Maurer tallied 19 digs, Schmitz notched 18 and Ulrich 13. Junior setter Megan Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) totaled 28 assists to go with 16 digs and sophomore setter Jenna Finger (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) added 17 assists and 13 digs.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday when it takes on Christopher Newport at Western Albemarle High School at 1:00 pm.
