BROOKLANDVILLE, Md. -- Junior attackman Mark Hild scored the game-winning goal with 28 seconds remaining in the first overtime period to lift Franklin & Marshall over Washington and Lee, 8-7, in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at the St. Paul's School in Brooklandville, Md.
The Generals (3-3) took an early 2-0 lead as sophomore attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) and sophomore midfielder Kevin Feeney (Summit, N.J./Summit) both found the back of the net in the first quarter. However, F&M responded, out-scoring the Generals 4-1 over the second and third quarters to take a 4-3 lead entering the final period.
The fourth quarter featured four ties and one lead change as neither team led by more than one goal. Junior attackman Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson) gave the Generals a 7-6 lead with 3:16 remaining, but Hild tied the contest with 2:31 left to send the game to overtime, where his heroics ensued. W&L was paced by senior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) and senior attackman Will Englehart (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney), who each registered a pair of goals.
Skeen and Keigler added one goal and one assist apiece, while junior midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) dished out two helpers. Junior Connor Locke (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes) played the duration in the pipes for W&L, stopping nine would-be goals.
F&M (4-1) was led by Hild, who tallied three goals, and junior attackman Noah Wilkinsky's two goals and one assist. Sophomore midfielder Shane Brennan totaled one goal and a trio of assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Marcozzi racked up 10 saves on the day.
The Blue and White return to action on Wednesday when they take on the College of Wooster at St. Anne's-Belfield in Charlottesville, Va. The game is slated to start at 7:00 pm.
