FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Senior guard Kaitie Clarkin scored a team-high 12 points in leading Mary Washington to a 74-43 victory over Washington and Lee in women's basketball action on Tuesday evening.
The Eagles (2-0) held a 19-12 lead with 10:23 left in the first half, but a 13-0 surge over the next 7:30 gave them a 34-14 lead en route to a 38-20 lead at the break.
The Generals (0-1), who were hampered by 30.0 percent (15-50) shooting and 24 turnovers, were paced by senior guard Bethany Ridenhour's (Westwood, N.J./Holy Angels) 12 points and four rebounds. First-year guard Meghan Ingram (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) notched five points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals, while senior forward Kara Nadeau (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and first-year forward Kari Ann Pfannenstein (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) tallied six points each.
Clarkin was joined in double figures for the Eagles by first-year center Lauren Kornacki and junior forward Kate Carlezon, who registered 10 points each.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it participates in the Dickinson Tip-Off Tournament. The Generals will play Dickinson on Saturday at 6:00 pm.
