W&L Volleyball Takes Down Virginia Wesleyan, 3-2, and Catholic, 3-0

NORFOLK, Va. -- The W&L volleyball team stretched its winning streak to a season- high 12 matches with victories over Virginia Wesleyan (3-2) and Catholic (3-0) on Saturday afternoon.

Despite falling behind two sets to one, the W&L volleyball team (22-4, 8-0 ODAC) rallied to defeat the Marlins (16-9, 6-3) 25-18, 21-25, 22-25, 26-24, 15-9. Junior outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fl./Tampa Prep) led the Generals with 16 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Marah Schmitz (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) added 14 and senior right side Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) 13. Phillips also led the way with 23 digs. Junior Kelly Harrison (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School) recorded 21 digs and sophomore Summer Goldberg (Marietta, Ga./Woodward Academy) chipped in 17. Junior setter Megan Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) had a season-high 54 assists.

Following the hard fought victory over VWC, W&L swept Catholic (7-22) 25-11, 25-16, 25-13. First-year outside hitter Megan Daily (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) paced the Generals with a career-high 11 kills, while Schmitz chipped in nine to go along with eight digs. Steinhardt once again topped W&L with 21 assists and sophomore setter Jenna Finger (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) added 18.

W&L will look to continue its winning ways when it hosts Sweet Briar on Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
