Swimming vs. Johns Hopkins

The Washington and Lee men's and women's swimming teams competed against Johns Hopkins on Saturday morning. The men fell, 153-109, while the women were defeated by JHU, 151-105.

For the men, senior Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) posted two first-place finishes. Sweet finished first in the 50 free (20.79) and the 100 free (46.78), before teaming up with senior Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro), junior Brett Tatman (Marietta, Ga./George Walton) and sophomore Brandon Barnds (Mission Hills, Kansas/Shawnee) to post another first-place finish with a time of 1:24.74 in the 200 free relay.

Junior Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell) also recorded a winning time for W&L. Crook placed first in the 500 free (4:50.60).

On the women's side, juniors Lindsey Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Governor's School) and Susan Mahoney (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's) led the Generals with one first-place finish apiece. Strachan took gold in the 200 back with a time of 2:11.90, while Mahoney finished first in the 200 IM in a time of 2:17.92.

Strachan then joined freshmen Jackie Smith (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Tess Hayden (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) and senior Amy Roberson (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches) in the 200 free relay to notch a first-place finish with a time of 1:43.75.

The men return to action on Friday when they travel to Virginia Tech for a 7:00 pm meet and the women travel to Bridgewater on Saturday for a 2:00 pm meet.
