LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team split its matches in the second day of the W&L Invitational on Saturday at the Warner Center. The Generals downed McDaniel College, 30-23, 30-23, 30-24, before falling to 19th-ranked Southwestern, 27-30, 24-30, 30-27, 24-30.

In the win over McDaniel (3-3), the Generals were paced by junior right side Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area), who totaled 12 kills. Junior outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) notched nine kills and 11 digs, while senior right side Jess Hudock (Tampa, Fla./Holy Names) posted seven kills, six digs and eight service aces in posting all-tournament accolades. Freshman setter Jenna Finger (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) added 26 assists and 14 digs.

In the loss to Southwestern (8-0), Maurer led the way with 17 kills and 14 digs en route to earning all-tournament honors. Freshman outside hitter Marah Schmitz (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) registered 14 kills, 17 digs and five service aces, while Ulrich had 12 kills and seven digs. Junior middle blocker Kassie Bagley (Midlothian, Va./James River) notched 10 kills and nine blocks and Finger tallied 30 assists and 14 digs. Senior setter Lauren Rudolph (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) chipped in 22 assists and nine digs.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Bridgewater at 11:00 am and Gallaudet at 1:00 pm.
