W&L Field Hockey Falls to Lynchburg, 1-0

LYNCHBURG, Va—Sophomore forward Allie Weir (Richmond, Va./James River) tallied the game-winner at 59:52 to lead the Lynchburg field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Washington and Lee on Wednesday evening at Shellenberger Field.

The Generals and the Hornets remained scoreless through the first half and much of the second until Weir found the back of the cage off of senior forward Samantha Howard's (Fairfax Station, Va./W.T. Woodson) assist.

LC (17-4) outshot W&L, 26-3, while also holding an 11-3 edge in penalty corners.

Senior goalkeeper Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) played the entire time in the cage and registered eight saves for the Blue and White. Sophomore Sarah Cates (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) also played the duration and registered no saves for Lynchburg.

Lynchburg now advances to the ODAC championship game on Saturday, while W&L season ends at 11-7 overall.
