BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Washington and Lee swimming teams dropped a dual meet to Johns Hopkins University on Saturday afternoon. The W&L men, ranked 14th in Division III, took its first loss of the season, 147-113, to No. 13 Johns Hopkins. The W&L women lost to the 10th-ranked Blue Jays by a score of 152-99.
The men were paced by senior Mike Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal), who took first in the 100 butterfly (52.93) and placed second in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events in times of 53.11 and 1:56.78, respectively. Ginder also anchored the winning 400 free relay that finished with a time of 3:10.91. Junior Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) joined Ginder, senior Dave Croushore (Glen Allen, Va./North Penn) and Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) on the 400 free relay team and also won the 50 freestyle in a time of 21.17.
Sophomore Susan Mahoney (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines) led the women with a first-place finish in the 200 IM (2:16.16).
Both W&L swim teams return to action on Saturday. The women (5-9) travel to Roanoke, Va., for a double dual with Hollins and Randolph-Macon Woman's College at 3 pm. The men (9-1) hit the road for a double dual meet against host-Virginia Tech and VMI at 1 pm.
