GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Washington and Lee volleyball split its matches during the final day of competition at the Southwestern Invitational held in Georgetown, Texas on Saturday. The Generals defeated Lakeland 30-23, 32-34, 30-28, 30-26, before falling to ninth-ranked Southwestern 21-30, 28-30, 26-30.
In the win over Lakeland (13-13), sophomore outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) led the Generals by registering 21 kills and 18 digs. Senior outside hitter Ashley Hurt (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Trinity Prep) posted 15 kills, while senior libero Lauren Edmonson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) recorded 31 digs. Freshman setter Kristi Stevens (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) tallied 30 assists and six services aces and sophomore middle blocker Abbey Wilson (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) racked up nine blocks.
In the loss to No. 9 Southwestern (23-4), W&L was paced by sophomore right side Jessica Ulrich's (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) 11 kills and Edmonson's 24 digs. Stevens notched 26 assists and three services aces and junior right side Jess Hudock (Tampa, Fla./Holy Names) added three blocks and two service aces.
Washington and Lee (19-6) returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Eastern Mennonite at 6:30 pm in the Warner Center.
