LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's swimming teams were swept by Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon at Twombly Pool. The 20th-ranked men fell 146-115 to the ninth-ranked Blue Jays, while the women lost 156-103 to No. 10 Johns Hopkins.
In the men's meet, the W&L (6-1) foursome of sophomore Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro), senior Reed Evans (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day), sophomore Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) and junior Michael Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a pool-record time of 1:25.64.
Ginder and freshman Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell) each won a pair of individual events. Ginder captured the 100-yard backstroke (52.07) and the 100-yard butterfly (52.25), while Crook touched the wall first in the 200-yard (1:45.46) and 500-yard (4:51.93) freestyle events.
Additionally, McGlaston won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 21.60.
In the women's meet, W&L (10-5) was led by freshman Lindsey Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Maggie Walker Governor's), who won the 100-yard (1:02.65) and 200-yard (2:12.49) backstroke events.
Senior Kristine Holda (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) captured the 100-yard freestyle (55.62), while freshman Susan Mahoney (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines) finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.93) and 200-yard IM (2:17.95).
The W&L men's swimming team returns to the pool at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships from Thu., Feb. 16 to Sat., Feb. 18. The W&L women's swimming team returns to action at the ODAC Championships from Fri., Feb. 17 to Sun., Feb. 19.
