W&L Volleyball Falls to Southwestern, 3-0, in NCAA Tournament

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 30-24, 30-24, 30-24 loss to Southwestern in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday evening at Emory University.

W&L was led by senior setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep), who totaled 32 assists, 14 digs and eight kills. Senior right side Laura Byrne (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) registered eight kills, 14 digs and four blocks, while senior middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter Gaud) posted 13 kills and four blocks. Freshman outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) notched nine kills and junior libero Lauren Edmonson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) added 19 digs.

W&L finished the 2005 campaign with a 32-5 overall record. Southwestern improved to 35-4 overall and will take on top-ranked Emory University on Friday evening.

Washington and Lee's six seniors conclude their four-year careers with a 127-25 (.836) overall record, a perfect 42-0 record in the ODAC, and four ODAC Championships.
