LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team improved to 12-3 overall and 5-0 in the ODAC with a pair of 3-0 wins on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center. The Generals defeated Bridgewater, 30-20, 30-19, 30-27, then downed Franklin & Marshall, 30-23, 30-19, 30-18.
In the win over Bridgewater (16-2, 4-2), the Generals were paced by freshman outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John Paul XXIII), who totaled a team-high 14 kills. Freshman middle blocker Laurel Stewart (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) tallied nine kills and five blocks, and senior middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) notched nine kills and four blocks. Senior setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) amassed 36 assists, nine digs and three blocks.
Against F&M (10-3), W&L was again led by 14 kills from Maurer. Gaillard totaled 10 kills, five digs and four blocks, while senior right side Laura Byrne (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) posted eight kills and 12 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Hudock (Tampa, Fla./Holy Names) registered eight kills, seven digs and three blocks, and senior outside hitter Ashleigh Overly (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) amassed a team-best 16 digs. Gladysz added 43 assists and eight digs.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday as it travels to Randolph-Macon for a 7:00 pm contest.
