W&L Swimming Competes Against The College Of New Jersey

EWING, N.J. -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's swimming teams were in action on Sunday swimming against the College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J. The W&L men fell, 108-81, while the women fell, too, 116-88.

The Generals' men's squad (2-3) was led by freshman Clark Barrineau (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg), who won the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:40.64. Sophomore Chris Colby's (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) time of 2:03.65 in the 200 Fly was good for second.

The pace-setters for the W&L women (5-2) were senior Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich/Niles) and freshman Kristine Holda (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville), who each won two events. Austin won the 500 Free (5:35.06) and 200 Free (2:03.57), while Holda picked up wins in the 50 Free (25.99) and 100 Free (56.35). Freshman Elizabeth Sauer (Reistertown, Md./McDonogh) contributed a win in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:41.00.

The Generals' men's squad will be back in the pool on Wed., Dec. 4, for a 7:00 pm meet at VMI. The W&L women return to action on Sat., Jan. 11, when they host Catholic for a 2:00 pm meet.
