MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team improved to 25-5 overall with a 30-15, 30-21, 30-17 win over Sewanee and a 30-22, 30-13, 29-31, 30-21 win over Huntingdon in the opening round of the Maryville Invitational on Friday in Maryville, Tenn.
In the win over Sewanee, the Generals were led by freshmen middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud), who amassed 12 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) notched eight kills, while sophomore libero Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) tallied 10 digs. Freshman setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) added 29 assists and six digs.
Against Huntingdon, Wolfing led the way with 14 kills and 18 digs. Gaillard totaled 14 kills and four blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) added 13 kills and eight digs. Lux accounted for 10 digs and Gladysz notched 33 assists.
W&L will be in action in the second day of the tournament on Saturday morning. The Generals face Thomas More at 10:00 am and Maryville at 12:30 pm.
