LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team advanced to the ODAC Championship match with a 16-14, 20-18, 13-15, 15-7 semifinal win over Roanoke before dropping a heartbreaking 15-11, 15-13, 12-15, 7-15, 18-20 match to Bridgewater in the finals.
W&L led the Eagles 14-11 in the final game of the championship match before a BC comeback.
Against Roanoke, the Generals were led by junior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled 21 kills, 12 digs and six blocks. Junior outside hitter Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) totaled 18 kills and eight blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Stacey Kimmel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) notched 11 kills and 13 digs.
Senior setters Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) and Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) posted 30 and 20 assists, respectively.
In the championship match against Bridgewater, W&L was again led by Ruckert, who tallied 27 kills and four blocks. Fischbeck amassed 26 kills and eight blocks, while freshman outside hitter Kari Lassen (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads) notched 14 digs. Kimmel added 13 digs as well.
Saulsbury totaled 28 assists, while Kline tallied 27 assists and 12 digs.
Ruckert and Fischbeck were both named to the all-tournament team.
Washington and Lee ends its season with a 20-10 overall record.
