W&L Women's Hoops Falls To Coe (Iowa) In The Haverford Classic

HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Washington and Lee junior forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) totaled 28 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks and three steals, but it wasn't enough as the Generals (0-1) fell to Coe (Iowa), 61-57, in the opening round of the Haverford Classic on Saturday evening.

W&L trailed by six points at the half and by just one point (56-55) with 56 seconds remaining, but couldn't pull out the win over the Kohawks (1-0).

Mentz amassed her 28 points by going 8-of-11 from the floor and 12-of-13 from the foul line. Freshman guard Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) tallied 13 points and junior center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) notched eight points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Jessica Lincoln led Coe with 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Emily Crook scored 12 points and gathered seven rebounds.

Washington and Lee will face Lesley (Mass.) in the consolation game at 1:00 pm on Sunday.
