Jan Hathorn, Michael F. Walsh Director of Athletics at Washington and Lee University, has announced the appointment of Lumumba Shabazz as Associate Professor of Physical Education and the 10th Head Coach of Men’s Soccer in program history effective June 2024.

In his first season at the helm, Shabazz helped the Generals maintain their recent excellence by reaching the program's third national semifinal game in the last four seasons, while winning the program's eighth ODAC Tournament championship. The team shook a 1-3 start to the season by rattling off a program-record 20 consecutive games without a loss before falling against Connecticut College, 1-0, in the national semifinal.

Led by 2024 ODAC Player of the Year and United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American Weyimi Agbeyegbe '25, Shabazz mentored his players to eight All-ODAC awards and five All-Region citations, with Will Joseph '26 being named the 2024 ODAC Scholar Athlete of the Year.
