Steve Phillips

Steve Phillips is in his third season as an assistant mens basketball coach at Washington and Lee. In two years, the Generals have registered a 30-25 overall record and an 18-14 mark in the ODAC. The team has advanced to the ODAC Tournament semifinals in each of his two seasons.

Phillips came to Washington and Lee from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y., where he spent the two years as an assistant men’s basketball coach. During his time at Mount Saint Mary’s, Phillips helped with player development, recruiting, film breakdown and practice and game planning.

Phillips also has coaching experience with Primo Sports AAU basketball, as well as helping coach the New Hyde Park Memorial High School summer league team in 2011. Phillips has other coaching experience working the W&L, West Point, and Mount Saint Mary’s men’s basketball summer camps.

Phillips is a 2014 graduate of Mount Saint Mary with a bachelor of arts in history and education. He was a four-year letterwinner in basketball, and helped the Knights to an overall record of 82-32. The 2011-12 squad finished with a school best record of 23-7 and an appearance in the 2013-14 Skyline Conference championship game.
