Matt Williams is in his third season as an assistant men's basketball coach at Washington and Lee. In two seasons with Williams in the fold, W&L has tallied a 39-14 overall record (.736) and a 23-9 mark (.719) in ODAC play.

The Generals registered their most wins in over three decades during the 2019-20 campaign. W&L finished the season with a 20-6 mark, the most wins for the program since the 1988-89 season. The Blue and White also had a 12-4 mark in the ODAC, the most league wins in a single-season in program history.

During the 2018-19 season, the Blue and White went 19-8 overall and 11-5 in league play, advancing to the ODAC Tournament semifinals.

Williams came to W&L from Hampden-Sydney, where he served as an assistant coach in 2017-18. The Tigers finished 10th in the ODAC that year, and Williams was involved in all the day-to-day operations of the team, including recruiting potential student-athletes, on-court coaching during games and practices and leading film sessions in preparation for upcoming contests.

Before heading to Hampden-Sydney, Williams was an assistant coach at Millsaps during the 2016-17 season. With the Majors, he was the recruiting and video coordinator. He oversaw player development, travel and also assisted in recruiting and preparing scouting reports.

Williams is a 2016 graduate of Davidson College with a bachelor of science in psychology. He was a two-year member of the men's basketball team for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. The Wildcats claimed the Atlantic 10 regular season championship in 2015, and the team won at least 20 games both seasons.
