POSITIONS: Co-Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers

Jon Berlin is in his fifth season as an assistant football coach at Washington and Lee, serving as co-defensive coordinator and working primarily with the linebackers.
In his first four seasons, Berlin has helped lead the Generals to a 23-18 overall record and the 2015 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship. As co-defensive coordinator over the past two years, he has helped the Generals cut down in both points allowed and yards allowed per game, while mentoring his linebackers to three All-ODAC citations.
Berlin came to Washington and Lee from Rustburg High School, where he served as head football coach from 2008-12. He took over a 1-9 team and led them to back-to-back 5-5 seasons, along with their first region playoff appearance since 2003. Along with Head Coach Scott Abell, Berlin is a co-founder of the Central Virginia Coaches Clinic and he has served as the co-director of the clinic since 2002.
Also a government and weightlifting teacher at Rustburg High School, Berlin's coaching experience also included four years working with Abell at Amherst County High School (2002-06). In addition to his time at Amherst County, he also held assistant coaching positions at Monticello High School (1999-01), Western Albemarle High School (1996-99) and Albemarle High School (1991-95).
Berlin is a 1994 graduate of Mary Baldwin College with a bachelor of arts in history. He also attended classes at the University of Virginia, receiving special education certification from the Virginia Department of Education. Berlin then earned a master's degree in administration/supervision from Liberty University in 2004.
