Jimmie Johnson is in his second season as an assistant coach at Washington and Lee.  He will work with the offensive skill positions, particularly the wide receivers and tight ends.

Johnson is a recent graduate of Washington and Lee, earning a bachelor of arts in journalism in 2020.  He was a four-year letterwinner on the football team, adding two more letters as a four-year member of the track & field squad.  In football, he played 37 career games as a running back, carrying 64 times for 427 yards and four touchdowns.  He also caught 10 passes for 176 yards and one touchdown and added 13 tackles, to go along with five kickoff returns for an average of 20.4 yards per return.  In track & field, he was a two-time All-ODAC honoree and he earned the Athletic Department’s 2020 Wink Glasgow Spirit & Sportsmanship Award.
 
Johnson was also a fixture on campus, serving as a residence advisor and holding a work study position in the department of athletics.  He completed the Generals Leadership Academy and served as a producer of the Rockbridge Report through the school’s journalism department.  He also served a communications internship with the Arena Football League (2019) and was a reporting intern with Starnes Publishing (2018).
