BRUNSWICK, Maine – A pair of Generals sit inside the Top 20 while the Washington and Lee women's golf team is in a tie for eighth place at the Polar Bear Shootout in the team's fall-opening tournament.

TEAM & INDIVIDUAL LEADERS THRU ROUND 1:

• Hamilton is out in front on the team leaderboard after a 4-over 296. Middlebury follows in second one stroke behind, while Bowdoin, Williams and Babson are tied for third at two shots behind Hamilton.
• Amanda Phillips (Wesleyan) is the individual leader through 18 holes of play after a 4-under (69) on Saturday. Abby Kim (Amherst) is one shot off the lead, while Season Wei (Middlebury), Teagan Nadeau (Hamilton) and Zoe Wynn (Williams) are each two shots off the lead.
• The Generals, as a team, are tied for eighth place with Bates after a 13-over (305) opening round.

W&L ROUND 1 PLAYER SUMMARIES:

• Sophomore Morgan Maddox and first-year Kelsey Sciacca lead the Generals at 2-over (75) each and are tied for 17th. Maddox carded one birdie and shot even-par on the front nine. After going 2-over across her first nine holes, Sciacca settled in at her first collegiate tournament and sank two birdies across her second nine.
• Sophomore Bella Scucchi is two shots behind Maddox and Sciacca and in a tie for 34th. Scucchi led the Generals with four birdies, two of which came on her first two holes of the day.
• Sophomore Toral Bhatt will head into round two at 5-over (78). She was also even on the front nine thanks to birdies on Holes 3 and 5.
• Sophomore Mackenzie Cline is 8-over (81) and had two birdies on the day. Both birdies came on the front nine, as Cline was the only General to shoot under par on the front or back nine (-1).
• Junior Berkeley Bundy played as an individual and shot 6-over (79) on Saturday. Bundy birdied the par-3 fifth hole and the par-4 14th.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• The Generals are tied with Middlebury (-4) for the second-best par-5 performance on the day and tied for sixth in par-3 scoring (3.40).
• W&L is also tied for ninth in birdies made (11) and tied for fourth in pars (53).
• Maddox is in a four-way tie for the best par-3 scoring average (2.75) through 18 holes, while Scucchi is tied for fifth in par-5 average (4.60).
• Scucchi's four birdies are two shy of the leaders and Maddox is tied for second-most pars (14).
