Hopkinson-Wood named to WGCA National Coach of the Year Watchlist

11/5/2026 1:25:00 PM

FRISCO, Texas – The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced its inaugural fall watchlists for the Jackie Steinmann WGCA National Coach of the Year Presented by Golf Pride, PING WGCA Player of the Year, and WGCA Freshman of the Year Presented by StrackaLine, and Washington and Lee Head Women's Golf Coach Jane Hopkinson-Wood was recognized among the Southeast Region coaches.

These watchlists recognize the outstanding performances and achievements of Division III coaches and student-athletes during the fall collegiate golf season. The fall watchlists highlight excellence throughout the year and recognize those who have made an early impact on their teams and across the collegiate landscape. The WGCA will continue to recognize standout performances throughout the upcoming spring season.

The 2026 WGCA Southeast Region Coach of the Year, Hopkinson-Wood led the Generals through a competitive fall 2026 schedule in which they placed Top 10 in all four tournaments, including Top 6 in three of the four. W&L improved on its team score in every tournament from one round to the next, while sophomore Toral Bhatt led the individual efforts with a pair of Top 10 finishes. She used a sixth-place finish at the Hollins Cup and a tied-for-fourth placing at the NCAA Preview to pick up ODAC Women's Golfer of the Week honors.

Hopkinson-Wood's efforts leading the Generals across four seasons culminated in securing the program's highest-ever finish at the NCAA Championship last season, a fourth-place finish with a four-day score of 22-over (292-296-294-292—1,174). Bhatt paced the Generals with a T-16th finish, while all five players in the lineup posted program all-time Top-10, 72-Hole scores. All five players shot 24-over or better, something that had only been accomplished twice in program history at a 72-hole event prior to last year's national championship.
