Kaufman Secures First Career Win, No. 2 Men’s Golf Finishes Seventh at Capital City Classic

PRATTVILLE, Ala. - The second-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team finished in seventh place at the Capital City Classic while sophomore Tim Kaufman finished in a tie for first place.

The Blue and White posted their seventh top-10 finish of the season after carding a score of 23-over par (300-294-293 – 877) across 54 holes to finish seventh out of 17 teams. After shooting 12-over and six-over in rounds one and two, they bounced back with a five-over performance in the final round, recording 12 birdies, 41 pars, and an eagle from Tim Kaufman.


No. 1 Huntingdon secured the team title with a score of three-under par (283-282-296 – 861). They shot eight-over in the final round to claim their fifth tournament win of the season. No. 8 Methodist finished second at two-over par (290-279-297 – 866) after shooting nine-over in the final round.


No. 3 Carnegie Mellon placed third with a score of 11-over par (293-282-300 – 875), shooting 12-over in the final round. No. 13 Piedmont moved up two spots on the final day to finish fourth at 19-over par (300-287-296 – 883). No. 3 Sewanee (302-293-294 – 885) and No. 12 Kenyon (298-293-294 – 885) tied for fifth place at 21-over par.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • 12th-ranked Tim Kaufman secured the first win of his career this afternoon after finishing the tournament with a score of four-under par. After shooting two-under in round one and one-under in round two, Kaufman closed out the tournament with a one-under par 71. He carded a birdie and 14 pars before recording an eagle on the fifth hole (563-yard, par 5), which moved him into a tie for the lead. Kaufman ranked tied for 19th in par-3 scoring at two-over par while playing even-par on the par 4s. He finished the tournament tied for sixth in par-5 scoring at six-under par, led the field in total pars with 39, and recorded the second-fewest bogeys with six across 54 holes.
  • Top-ranked Jonathan McEwen posted his sixth top-five finish of the season after moving up eight spots in the final round to finish in a tie for third place at three-under par. After shooting even rounds in the first 36 holes, he turned in the lowest round of the day at three-under par. He carded six birdies and nine pars in the final round, including three birdies on each nine. McEwen led the tournament with 14 birdies while finishing tied for fifth in par-4 scoring at one-over par and posting the second-best score on par 5s at seven-under par.
  • William Hull fell 14 spots in the final round to finish in a tie for 67th place with a score of 16-over par. Hull shot 78 (+6) and 75 (+3) in the first two rounds before carding a 79 (+7) in the final round. He recorded birdies on holes two and 17 while adding seven pars, finishing the tournament at two-under par on par 5s.
  • Reid Heaton moved up seven spots in the final round to finish tied for 72nd place at 18-over par. He opened with rounds of 80 (+8) and 79 (+7) before shooting a 75 (+3) in the final round. Heaton carded three birdies, including back-to-back on holes four and five, and added 10 pars. He ranked tied for 19th with Kaufman in par-3 scoring at two-over par.
  • Charlie Krasnewich finished in 95th place with a two-round score of 10-over par after his first round was disqualified. He shot a 76 (+4) in round two with one birdie and followed with a 78 (+6) in the final round, recording two birdies and eight pars. Krasnewich played the par 5s to one-under par for the tournament.
