No. 2 Men’s Golf Sits in T-8th Place after 36 Holes at the Capital City Classic

PRATTVILLE, Ala.  - The second-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team is sitting in a T-8th place after 36 holes at the Capital City Classic while sophomore Tim Kaufman is among the top five individually.

The Blue and White are in the top 10 after shooting 18-over par (300-294 – 594) across the first two rounds. W&L shot 12-over par in the first round with 10 birdies, 40 pars, and an eagle from William Hull. They bounced back with a six-over performance in round two as they carded 12 birdies and 43 pars.


No. 1 Huntingdon is leading the tournament after two rounds, carding a score of 11-under par. They shot five-under in round one with a six-under performance in round two to be the only team in the field to shoot under par in both rounds. No. 8 Methodist sits in second with a score of seven-under par, shooting two-over in round one with a nine-under performance in round two, the lowest score in the tournament. No. 4 Carnegie Mellon is in third place with a score of one-under par, with No. 20 Lynchburg following at seven-over par. No. 13 Piedmont rounds out the top five with a score of 11-over par.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • 12th-ranked Tim Kaufman leads the Generals after 36 holes of action in fourth place with a score of three-under par. Kaufman fired off a two-under par (70) in the first round with four birdies, including two-straight on holes 5 (426-yard, Par 5) and 6 (420-yard Par 4), and 12 pars. He followed the first 18 with a one-under performance in round two. Kaufman bounced back from two bogeys on the first four holes with three birdies and 11 pars to close out the round. 
  • No. 1-ranked Jonathan McEwen follows closely behind in T-11th place with a score of even-par. McEwen shot an even 72 in round one with five birdies, three on the back nine, and eight pars. He followed that up with another even-par round, tallying three birdies and 12 pars.
  • William Hull sits in a T-53rd place with a score of nine-over par after two rounds. Hull finished round one with a score of six-over par, carding a birdie and an eagle on the 17th hole, a 530-yard Par 5. In round two, he shot a three-over 75 with five birdies including three-straight on holes 4 through 6 while adding five pars. 
  • Reid Heaton is in a T-79th place after the two rounds on Monday with a score of 15-over par. In the first round, Heaton carded an eight-over 80 with 11 pars before shooting a 79 (+7) in the final 18 of the afternoon with 12 pars.
  • Charlie Krasnewich is in 95th place after his first round was disqualified. He shot a four-over in the second round with one birdie on hole 6 (420-yard, Par 4) while carding 13 pars.
