Bhatt claims individual title, No. 8 W&L places second at ODAC Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – First-year Toral Bhatt fired a 2-under (70) in Tuesday's final round of the ODAC Championship to win the individual title, while the No. 8 Washington and Lee women's golf team took second place.

FINAL TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL LEADERS:
  • Bhatt becomes the first W&L women's golfer to win the ODAC individual trophy since senior Julia Haetzel did so in 2023. Bhatt's 2-under on Tuesday put her back at even par for the tournament.
  • Morgan Mussatt of Randolph-Macon took runner-up honors after shooting a 4-over 76 in her final round, with teammates Alexis Haller (+6) and Lilly Hall (+7) taking third and fourth. W&L sophomore Berkeley Bundy rounded out the Top 5 at 9-over for the tournament.
  • The Yellow Jackets shot 6-over (294) on Tuesday to finish at +27 and claim the team crown. The Generals matched the Jackets' 6-over in round three to finish six shots back as the runner-up.
W&L ROUND 3 PLAYER SUMMARIES:
  • Bhatt's 2-under came on the strength of five birdies, including two in the final three holes to secure the individual title. She had three birdies on the front 9 for a 2-under 34.
  • First-year Mackenzie Cline shot her best round of the tournament on Tuesday, firing a 1-over 73 to finish in seventh place at 12-over. Cline made par on 15 of the holes, and she birdied the par-4 15th hole.
  • Bundy was 3-over par in the third round to settle in at fifth place for the tournament at 9-over par. Both of Bundy's birdies on the day came on the front 9 where she shot even-par, and she made par of six of the final seven holes.
  • In her final ODAC Tournament, Haetzel also saved her best round for last, as she shot 4-over par to finish in 13th place. Haetzel sank 15 pars in the third round, tied with Cline for the most on the day.
  • First-year Bella Scucchi rounded out the Generals' lineup with an eighth-place finish after a 5-over (77) put her at 13-over for the tournament. Scucchi had the second-most birdies in round three among Generals (3).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • After setting the program's 54-hole records for score (217) and score-to-par (+1) her last time out, Bhatt bettered both marks with her performance at the ODAC Championship, finishing at even-par 216 (72-74-70).
  • The Generals finished atop the tournament in par-3 (3.15) and par-5 (5.02) averages, while taking second in par-4 (4.29) scoring.
  • W&L had the most pars in the field (159), fewest doubles+ (10), second-most birdies (35) and second-fewest bogeys (66).
  • Bhatt was also the tournament leader in par-4 average (4.07), and finished tied for second in both par-3 (3.00) and par-5 (4.83) scoring. Scucchi tied Bhatt in par-3 average and joined Bhatt under par for the tournament on par 5s (4.92).
  • Bhatt sank 12 birdies, a tournament best, and had 30 pars. Cline tied for the most pars (35), with Bundy one behind.

The Generals will wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Golf National Championship on May 19-22 at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, Calif.. The NCAA will release the field on May 11 on NCAA.com.
