NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Washington and Lee University women's track and field hammer throw crew kicked off the first day of the New Captains Classic with a pair of Top-Ten marks. 

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET

• Bailey Hedgemon paced the group with a first place finish, recording a toss of 49.19m (161'-04.00"). Bella Timmerding finished in fourth place after recording a personal best toss of 43.47m (142'-07.00") which improved her No. 3 all-time mark.
• Leah Smith finished right behind Timmerding in fifth place, registering a personal best mark of 42.03m (137'-10.00"). Her toss moved her past Mackenzie Shand's mark of 134'-03 which was set in 2017. Katie Wood finished in sixth place with a season-best mark of 39.21m (128'-07.00").
